Sydney Kashiwagi is a general assignment reporter at Grid where she focuses on politics. Before joining Grid, Sydney co-authored "Campaign Confidential," a political newsletter that broke news on New York City's historic 2021 citywide elections for the New York-based political magazine City & State. She also was a New York City Hall reporter for the Staten Island Advance, a daily newspaper, where she covered New York politics, the administration of Mayor Bill de Blasio and everything from the NYPD disciplinary trial of ex-officer Daniel Pantaleo, New York City's response to the coronavirus pandemic and Staten Island's efforts to secede from New York City. As a result of her reporting, the NYPD fully revamped security on the Staten Island Ferry. Sydney is a graduate of American University in Washington, D.C.
